an abiding memory...

This loving tribute came from a dear British friend, whom my mother visited every yea in her annual jaunts back to Britain... "An abiding memory of Joan will always be her zest for living and her appreciation of the beauty of the natural world. She had something her father’s feeling s for poetry and things spiritual which showed in her many paintings and other art forms. She positively glowed when giving her verbal interpretation of the sentiment conveyed to her in a picture, whether it was her own or someone else’s. So it was not surprising that she alone put her own Art Fair on the map in Canada bringing contributors from across the country to exhibit in their chosen medium. To do that for so many years was a testament to her organisational and leadership skills. I also brought national recognition of her work. She was a striking personality at Cambridge within the Geography Department , at tennis and among a circle of Girton girls which I believe was called the “famous five”, true or not they remained friends thereafter meeting up for five year anniversaries well into later years. And when I say “striking personality”, I mean that in its widest sense, she was a person remembered after meeting.
