Longtime Chalmers Church friends remember Joan...

"I can only guess how much Joan's rich and vibrant personality will be missed by her family and the rest of us who knew her. As a total luddite, some of my memories will have to be written down in this card. Many years ago Joan brought her mother to visit late one afternoon, because she, Joan, was busy earlier - tennis I think. At any rate my two aunts and I were playing Scrabble and I have my chair to Mrs Kerr as Joan and I chatted about other things and tea and coffee was served. The following Sunday, Joan and her mother were sitting in front of us at church and Mrs Kerr mentioned the tea several days before and about the "bossy" one, in reference to the Scrabble game! My take at the time was amusement that white-haired seniors couldn't manage Scrabble without conflict. Now that I have myself reached their ages, I of course realize that Scrabble is a VERY serious business and that my aunt always wanted to win! I loved it when Joan arrived a tad late at the Later Life Learning lectures and would sit beside me -I would put my purse, belongings on the chair next to me - in the hope that she would slip into the saved seat!"
