A photographic journey through June 15... Celebration of Life memorial service for Joan M. McGrath

Created by the McGrath family 10 years ago
With family and friends arriving from places such as the Philippines, Scotland, New Zealand and USA, June 15 truly marked an outpouring of love. Although Joan died on March 26, the service was arranged for June 15 after Ilana's boys decided that they would like to be a part of it. Their school year in Manila ended in early June, and soon everyone was converging at Chalmer's United Church, Kingston for a poignant, touching and yet uplifting ceremony to remember Joan M. McGrath. This celebration had indeed been a labour of love, with all the emotional highs and lows of birthing along the way. Deep thought was placed towards representing music, poetry, art, photographs, tributes, scripture and the Spirit just as we imagined Mummy would have wished. She must have been watching down on us and smiling her rays of sunshine, because that Saturday was a glorious burst of heat and radiance amongst a miserably grey and cloudy week!! As the lone piper played some merry tunes welcoming the guests, a slide show of Joan's life was playing inside. With the waltzes of Chopin sounding from the piano, the Celebration of Life began. Rev. Wayne Hilliker, minister Emeritus of Chalmers Church was the celebrant, and the Journey unfolded... Please enjoy a photographic walk through the day, from the Church memorial service to the reception afterwards, onwards to the dinner later that evening down at the waterfront. Joan/Mummy/Nyonya was indeed with us all...
